McCarthy Family Farm

McCarthy Family Farm (formerly Trout Creek Orchard) is a fourth-generation family farm located in Parkdale, Oregon, selling premium apples, pears and cherries as well as holiday wreaths. The farm sells the vast majority of its fruit to a local packing house. The remainder is sold directly to consumers through its online website and wholesale to nurseries, florists and fundraisers. Setting a goal to grow its online sales, the company recognized it needed a new look and an engaging, responsive website to capture the growing number of people purchasing gifts online and through mobile devices.

mffpears

McCarthy Family Farm hired Pitchfork Communications to land on a new name and design a modern logo and brand identity that reflects its focus on quality, family ownership and sustainability.

We applied the new logo and brand to all print and digital marketing materials. We also designed and launched a new website and online store, including arranging a product photo shoot. The response from customers has been wildly successful. McCarthy Family Farm is poised to grow its online business, which now includes they locally grown peaches and fresh-cut peonies.

As a fourth-generation family-owned farm, it was a big step to rename and rebrand our business. Pitchfork Communications led us through a thoughtful, creative and fun process to land on a new brand identity that we are all proud of and excited about. The response from our customers and other farms in the area has been overwhelmingly positive.

City of Tualatin

The City of Tualatin, population 27,000, is a dynamic, vibrant community located 12 miles south of Portland and 30 miles north of Salem, the state capital. The City of Tualatin is committed to providing timely, relevant and engaging information to the community, which it views as an essential component of the democratic process and vital to helping the City fulfill its mission. The City of Tualatin engaged Pitchfork Communications to help with the development of a Communications Plan and Editorial Calendar.

tual1

We worked closely with the Deputy City Manager and the City’s Communications Team to develop key messages and communications goals, strategies, tactics and metrics of success to enhance the City’s ability to boost community and employee engagement and improve customer service. The process helped the Communications Team realize all the various tools that were already available to them — a Style Guide, Branding Guidelines, etc. — and together determine how to efficiently and effectively use these tools to reach more people in the community.

Ready, Set, GOrge!

Established in 1986, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area protects nearly 293,000 acres of trails, forest, waterfalls, parks and historical sites within this spectacular river canyon. A unique working landscape of public and private lands, the National Scenic Area is a world-renowned destination as well as a place that many people call home. It’s also extremely popular, which has led to trail and road congestion, trail degradation, invasive species, increased search and rescue operations and other concerns.

In 2015, multiple government agencies and nonprofits came together to discuss ways to reduce congestion in the Columbia River Gorge, raise awareness about impacts to natural resources, and help people have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Ready Set GOrge!

Working with Weinstein PR, Pitchfork Communications played a critical role in bringing this campaign to fruition. We worked with Travel Oregon, the U.S. Forest Service, Friends of the Columbia Gorge, and Oregon Department of Transportation to develop a communications plan and launch a campaign aimed at helping visitors travel safely travel to, from, and around the region while protecting it so that future generations can enjoy it, too.

This multi-faceted project includes a brochure, micro site and map that all aim to help improve the visitor experience.

Willamette Partnership

Willamette Partnership believes that when nature thrives, so do people. This environmental nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon, is helping cities and organizations throughout the American West change how they build infrastructure, protect water sources and critical habitat, and manage farms and forests as a way to strengthen community resilience.

Pitchfork Communications began working with Willamette Partnership in 2016 to assist with public relations around the announcement that Bobby Cochran, the organization’s ED, was chosen as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leader. We drafted and distributed a press release to media in Portland, Oregon.

In 2017, we assisted Willamette Partnership with its Strategic Plan, website re-launch, e-newsletter template and editorial calendar. Pitchfork continues to assist Willamette Partnership with strategic communications needs as they arise.

In 2018, we designed Willamette Partnership’s Green Infrastructure & Health Guide. The 60-page guide provides some general principles, best practices, and experiences about how best to use green infrastructure to promote better health equity. It is designed for use by managers, engineers, community organizations, planners, and others who are siting, designing, building, and stewarding green infrastructure in urban areas and rural towns across Canada and the United States.

Testimonial

For an organization like ours with wide-ranging policy- and science-driven work, Becky’s ability to dive in, thread connections, propose strategies, and help clearly articulate our story has been instrumental to our communications.
